FSC Coraçao de negro is available in very small quantities in the forests of Precious Woods located in the Amazon region in the north of Brazil. The trees have a straight trunk with diameters till abt. 50 cm, which limits the production to smaller dimensions.
Appearance:
Fresh sawn, the timber has a reddish brown colour, which quickly darkens to (black) brown. Sometimes with a purple shade. The timber has a fine stripy pattern. The sapwood, till a maximum of 8 cm, has a creamy colour and easy to distinguish. The grain is straight (hardly any interlocked grain). The texture is medium fine.
Working properties:
Despite the density the timber can be machined well. There is a slight blunting effect. Pre-drilling is necessary. Gluing is reported to be moderate and finishing to be good. Drying must be done carefully to avoid checking.
Durability:
very durable
Uses:
This very limited available species is mainly used for interior uses like furniture and parquet.
