Piquiarana Print E-mail
Source: FSC Piquiarana (means: false Piquia) is available in modest quantities in the forests of Precious Woods, located in the Amazon region of Brazil. The large trees with diameters till 100 cm have a straight shape. It is possible to produce larger dimensions in sawn wood.
Appearance: The heartwood is whitish yellow. The wood resembles Piquia. It has a hardly visible pattern. The sapwood is difficult to distinguish. The grain is irregular and interlocked, and the texture is coarse. The timber shows rough due to the interlocked grain.
Working properties: Machining is quite easy, although the interlocked grain requires sharp and hard metal tools. With gluing and finishing are no experiences known. Pre-drilling is recommended. The wood dries easy but has a tendency to checking and warping.
Durability: Ground contact: Modorate durable, Above ground: Durable
Uses: Piquiarana can be used for several outside applications, but has a limited life expectancy in the ground.
